Saturday afternoon we packed up and headed down to the Pennington field to watch the 2009 Hot Air Balloon Championships. Paul and I went in 2007 when I was pregnant with Kate. It was fun but my goodness was it HOT. We missed it last year but I just knew Kate would enjoy it this year so we headed down with plenty of time to spare for Kids' Village before the balloons flew, only to get there and it started raining :( However the rain was short lived and cooled it off a little. It was by no means cool but I was comfortable - meaning Paul was sweating but hey he sweats in the winter:) It was a great evening and I am looking forward to next year's adventure in ballooning!

This was one of the most precious scenes of the afternoon. Paul and Kate went up to watch the horses as they were awaiting her turn to ride and the little boy walked up to watch too. Paul told him to not let Kate go through the fence and being 'big brotherly' he reached around her shoulders and she latched on too. It was ADORABLE. :)

Daddy and Kate waiting for ride to start

Riding the "shoesh" (horse in Katespeak) I was a little nervous taht she would be scared and not want to get on or ride, but she absolutely loved it. She is going to be addicted when Tim and Kori put her on their horses next spring:)

Looking up at the parachuters jumping out of the plane and flying towards her. She was so excited about this she couldn't stop pointing and laughing. And of course when it was over she was clapping up a storm:)

There was a parachute display with four Army Black Daggers jumping and flying. It was awesome to see from directly underneath them. It was as if they were going to come down right on top of us. Very neat to see how they are able to control those things!

Kate in the inflatable moon jump. She was not scared a bit. Of course she had trouble staying on her feet but the look on her face in this photo shows you how much fun she was having.

Kate and Pa playing in the field with her "ball". Everything that has a semi-round shape is a ball. I had tomatoes on the table and she got mad at me because I wouldn't let her play with the balls :) They had a great time running around with her hot air ball:)

Here's Luke having a great time. Isn't he just the cutest little boy you ever saw? (NO of course I'm not biased:) But seriously isn't he adorable?

Paul tells me he is taking Kate to get her some Dippin' Dots. Ok I figure ice cream can't do much harm. But guess what? he decided the ice cream line is too long so he gets her a snowball - a RED snowball. Needless to say she enjoyed it and the dress is still being soaked with spray and wash/oxyclean mixture :)

Kate and Pa looking at all the balloons as they are airing up for the glow. The rain kept the balloons from flying but it was short lived so they did get to go on with the rest of the festivities.

aren't they pretty? They would light all balloons at one time then they would do a twinkle light where they flickered. It was beautiful. Wish I had taken my tripod so I could have been more still - could have gotten some better shots - seeing as how I breathe and the tripod doesn't.) There was also another parachuting dislpay after dark, and I swear I thought they were really going to land on us this time:)

The evening was capped off with a wonderful display of fireworks. The finale was spectacular, but of course the camera was put away at that time - go figure...but it was time to go after a fun filled evening. My kiddos had a great time and I got to spend time with a good friend that I haven't seen in a while. A good afternoon and evening - and needless to say the babies slept good last night:)
